Moving into the University

Day 3 First day at the University of Western Australia

Today a girl from Holland, Alyssa, and I took a taxi from the hostel to our school. We moved into our dorms. In Australia, they think it is very weird to share rooms so the majority of the rooms are singles. Awessommmmeeeeee! We ate lunch in the dining hall and it is so small and cute! I ate lunch with a girl from UCLA, a boy from Singapore, and Alyssa (we are basically always together). The Australians are not in the dorms yet since they are still on winter break so I only got to meet all the international students. Surprisingly, a lot of them are Asian and from Singapore! I became pretty good buddies with a guy from Indonesia. He speaks perfect English! It is crazyyyyyyyyyyy. I thought he was from the states. Well, he is teaching me Indonesian. I want to surprise my mama when I get home. Oh, for those who do not know, she is from Indonesia. After lunch, I explored the campus with a few other international students. OMG… IT IS SOOOOOOO PREEEETTTYYYYYYYYYYYY. There is a lot of trees and colorful birds everywhere. I feel like I am at a tropical resort. The buildings are also beautiful!! I’ll post up pictures later. My camera ran out of batteries. Blah! After lunch we had an orientation for new people and then had dinner. I love the dining halls because everyone eats together and it feels very welcoming. I love how everyone talks to each other and tries to get to know everyone. Fun fun fun fun fun fun.

What is different?

-Parking lots are called “car park”

-Napkins are called “serviettes”

-A university is called a uni . They often ask, “How long are you studying at Uni?”

-When they pick up the phone they say, “G’day”

-There are no toilet seat covers. Bummer

-Money is colorful and different sizes
